Accommodation & Guesthouse Photography – Frequently Asked Questions

By Gerhard Coetzer Photography

This information applies to all property photography, whether a B&B, guest house, lodge, hotel, or high-end property for sale. Based in Mossel Bay in the Garden Route, Gerhard Coetzer Photography services the entire region and beyond.

1. How much does your property, guesthouse, B&B, lodge or hotel photography cost in South Africa?

I do not simply “point and shoot” or rely on automated HDR. I create professional composite images by combining multiple exposures, often including studio lighting.

Packages start at R2,500 (2026 pricing) and include call-out and 10 composite images.

  • Additional composite images: R150 each
  • Straightforward/detail shots: R50 each

Larger lodges and boutique hotels require custom quotes with volume discounts available.

2. What is included in your accommodation photography package?
  • Call-out and 10 composite images
  • Manual professional editing
  • Interior room photography
  • Bathroom photography
  • Exterior shots
  • Common areas
  • Detail shots on request
  • Twilight / golden hour images
  • High-resolution & web-ready files
3. How long does a guesthouse photoshoot take?

Most shoots take between 1–4 hours depending on:

  • Number of rooms
  • Property layout
  • Weather conditions
  • Twilight images required
4. How long is the turnaround time?

Standard delivery is 3–5 working days.

Images are uploaded in preview size for selection, then delivered in high-resolution and web-optimised formats via Google Drive (non-expiring link).

5. Can we use the images for marketing and advertising?

Yes. Full usage rights are included for:

  • Website
  • Social media
  • Online booking platforms
  • Brochures & print
  • Digital advertising

Extended licensing available for large commercial campaigns.

6. How should we prepare our guesthouse for the shoot?

Preparation makes a major difference. Guests expect what they see online.

  • Rooms spotless
  • Replace worn linen
  • Remove clutter
  • Mow lawn & water garden beforehand
  • Warm white lighting throughout
  • Clean windows thoroughly

Ideally no guests should be checked in during the shoot.

7. Do you offer video?

Yes. I offer affordable 360° video and elevated 360 imagery using a 6m extension pole (ideal for no-drone zones).

If certified drone footage is required, I work with licensed drone pilots.

8. What if the weather is bad?

If conditions are unsuitable:

  • We adjust the schedule
  • Return for exterior shots
  • Reschedule twilight images

Interior photography can usually proceed unless the view is critical to marketing.

9. Will professional photos really increase bookings?

Yes. Strong visuals influence booking decisions.

  • Build trust
  • Increase click-through rates
  • Improve perceived value
  • Support higher nightly rates
  • Help listings stand out
